Odisha traffic police fined Rs 26000 on a minor for riding scooter without Helmet

The Police Commission on Wednesday levied a fine of Rs 26,000 on the owner of a scooter after a minor boy was caught driving the vehicle without wearing helmet in Khandagiri area in Odisha. The sources said, one Debasis Parida of Jagamara, who is under 18 years of age, was driving the two-wheeler without using helmet when the police nabbed him. The police issued a challan in the name of the vehicle owner Niranjan  Dash of Forest Park area in Odisha. 

The challan mentioned that penalty of Rs 25,000 was imposed as the driver was a minor and Rs 1,000 for not wearing helmet. The police also seized the scooter under Section 207 of MV Act as driver failed to produce driving licence.

The State Transport Authority (STA) had recently announced that made use of helmet by pillion riders was also compulsory and its violation will lead to cancellation of the driving licence of the rider. With increasing vehicles in the states and less usage of Public transport, government is taking all necessary steps to protect the common people from the accidents.
