On 2 June 2023, the train collided in the Balasore district, in the state of Odisha in eastern India. 288 people were killed and more than 1000 people are being injured few of them are serious. The coromandel express was traveling to Chennai. This was going on the upper-line track. And there was a downline track where the Yesvantpur Express was set off from Bangalore to Howrah. The coromandel express wants to change the track from an upper line track to an upper loop line track.

The driver said that He got the green single so he took that track whereas on the upper loop track line, there was an iron ore goods train standing which collided with the coromandel at a speed of 128 mph. As iron ore is too heavy so everything impacted the coromandel express. The Coromandel coaches went upside down where few coaches fall on the downline track where the yesvantpur express was coming from. The yesvantpur express few coaches separated from the train which got safe but few collided with the coromandel express.

As it is said that due to technical reasons, the signal was shown wrong and change in electronic interlocking. The rumors also say that the coromandel express was in over speed which is wrong. The railway has asked the CBI central bureau of Investigation to seek into the matter and the CRS Commission of railway safety to investigate the incident into actual reality. The investigation is still going on with the signal officer who was on duty. The signal officer's house is being sealed for the investigation.

The prime minister expressed his condolences to the families of members who have been injured. The minister of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu has claimed to compensate Rs5 lakh to the families members whose family members died in the incident.

The very famous tuber Carry Minati did a live stream and show his concern and asked people to donate and raise the fund around 14 lakh he has raised the fund. The research is still going on to know what exactly happened. The CBI and CRS are still doing the investigation for the incident.
