Punjab is considering rolling back the restoration of old pensions in the state by the Bhagwant Mann government. If the old pension is restored in the state, then it will be the fourth state in India after Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand to have an old pension system. Cm Bhagwant Mann has provided information about this by tweeting. He was informed in his tweet that the Punjab government is considering bringing back the old pension system (OPS).

"In this regard, I have spoken to my chief secretary and asked him to study its implementation. We are committed to the interests of our employees. At the same time, the decision of the Punjab government has been called a 'great decision' by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal. He said that all the government employees of the country want the old pension scheme to start back. Earlier, the Hemant government in Jharkhand restored the old pension scheme. The state cabinet has given the green signal to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the same. The old pension scheme in Jharkhand was discontinued on April 1, 2004, and replaced by the National Pension System (NPS).

Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel has informed that in the last cabinet meeting held on July 15, it was decided to implement the old pension scheme by abolishing the new contributory pension scheme. According to him, an SOP would be prepared for the implementation of the scheme, which was approved by the Cabinet today. Starting September 1, the scheme goes into effect.
