Don't Worry Darling, the upcoming film directed by Olivia Wilde has been dogged by controversy from the start. After a number of hypotheses regarding the principal cast's relationships and Harry Styles' "split gate" incident with Chris Pine circulated online, the movie's Venice Film Festival premiere became the talk of the town.

For those who are unaware, a clip from the premiere of Don't Worry, Darling went viral on social media, leading some to believe that Harry spits on Chris Pine before sitting next to him. The rumoured occurrence quickly became known online as "split gate." Despite the fact that Pine quickly issued a statement calling the allegations "ridiculous," Harry made light of them during his New York show.

In a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Wilde, who has been promoting the movie, finally spoke out about the incident. In a preview of her appearance on The Late Show, Wilde discussed "split gate" and the "strange rumours" involving her movie. Wilde couldn't help but laugh when Chris inquired if Harry had actually spat on him.

She further added, "But I think it's a perfect example of like: people will look for drama anywhere they can." When Colbert further  joked "only time will tell" if the rumours are actually true, she reiterated, "No, he really didn't!" Styles who himself joked about the incident a while back during one of his concerts said, "just popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine", leaving the crowd in splits.
