On Wednesday, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah will be heard in the Supreme Court in the matter of detention under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978. Omar Abdullah's sister Sarah Abdullah Pilot challenged the case in the Supreme Court.

Lawyer Kapil Sibal had said on Monday that he has filed a habeas corpus petition challenging the detention of Omar Abdullah under the Public Safety Act. Sara Abdullah Pilot, in her petition, termed the detention order as illegal and said that the reasons stated in it lacked sufficient material and such details that are necessary for such an order.

Apart from this, the petition said that Omar Abdullah was placed under house arrest on the night of August 4-5, 2019. It was later learned that section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 has been implemented to justify this arrest. The petition has requested the cancellation of the order of February 5 to detain Omar Abdullah under the Public Safety Act.
