Canada: If Omicron cases rise quickly, daily Covid-19 cases in Canada might reach record levels above 10,000 before January, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).

"The Omicron variant of concern serves as a harsh reminder of how swiftly the global epidemiological picture can alter. Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos stated, "We all need to be prepared for that."

The Delta variant is still the most common in Canada, but Omicron is becoming more common. Canada had confirmed 87 Omicron cases as of December 9th. While the exact number of cases reported is unknown, PHAC believes that an increase from the present level of over 3,300 cases per day is expected due to a "gradual but constant increase" in infections in Canada.

Canada had reported 3,878 new Covid-19 cases as of Friday afternoon, increasing the total number of cases to 1,826,888, with 29,897 deaths. Ontario and Quebec are in the forefront of the country's Covid-19 revival, with both provinces reporting numbers not seen since spring. On Friday, Ontario reported 1,453 new cases of Covid-19 and 11 deaths, while Quebec reported 2,013 new cases.
