London: On the anniversary of the Finsbury Park terror attack, London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, vowed that the city's residents would always "stand together."
The UK capital still faces the threat of extremists and terrorism, he cautioned, despite being a tolerant and diverse city.

The local imam, Mohamed Mamoud, received the Order of the British Empire in appreciation for his efforts to defuse tensions.
Khan said: "My thoughts are with Makram Ali's family, friends, and everyone else hurt in the Finsbury Park terror attack six years ago. It is such a tragedy that he lost his life.
Londoners will always stand together in the face of such hatred and division, and those who seek to harm our way of life will never succeed, as evidenced by the way the neighbourhood reacted to the attack.

Our greatest strength in London is its rich diversity, and we will never be intimidated by terrorism. In order to create a safer London for everyone, I am continuing to take action by investing record amounts in the police and funding significant projects that support our communities' efforts to combat all forms of hatred.
Ruzina Akhtar, Ali's daughter, described her father as "gentle" at a memorial last year. She also said that his passing had left a "black hole" in the family's life and that he "always had a smile on his face and was cracking jokes at the most random of times to make others laugh."
He was a kind-hearted husband, devoted father, and adoring grandfather who was beloved by all.
