Kochi: A priest of a church in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor on the pretext of counselling. 35-year-old pastor Pondson John was arrested by police on Thursday (March 17, 2022). A case has been registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to the report,  the incident took place in the Koudal area of Pathanamthitta district. The victim's age is 17 years.  

The victim did not seem to be paying attention to her studies. Regarding this, her mother had contacted the pastor for counselling her daughter. According to the report, on the pretext of counselling the girl, the priest sexually abused the minor at two different places. According to the report, the minor was sexually assaulted for the first time at her own home. The priest who came for counselling took her to a room and locked the door from inside and misbehaved with her. Even after this incident, when the victim remained silent, the priest's courage increased.

The next time he called the minor to his house and then sexually abused her. The victim then told this to one of her friends. Her friend informed the school about the incident, from where Childline was informed. After receiving the complaint, the police arrested the accused priest. According to police, the priest had sexually abused the victim on March 12 and 13.
