The festival of Onam is considered a very sacred festival. In such a situation, it is an important festival of Kerala, but it is also celebrated in other states. It is said that this is an annual festival which has started on 1 September this time. It will end there on 13 September. So today we are going to tell you about the reason for celebrating it. Let's know.

Assumptions - It is said that on the third day of Thiruvonam, the Mahabalis return to Patal Lok. All the artworks that are made are removed only after the sacrifice of the Mahabali. With this, this festival is associated with Keralites as an old tradition. Onam is a real harvest festival widely recognized. With this, another belief is that when Parashurama won the whole earth from the Kshatriyas and donated it to the Brahmins. Then there was no place for them to stay, then they did the penance of water god Varuna sitting in the cave of Sahyadri mountain.

The God of Varuna, happy with austerity, appeared to Parashurama and said that you throw your ax in the sea. As far as your ax will fall into the sea, the sea water will dry up and become earth. All of that earth will be yours and its name will be the Parshu Kshetra. Parshuram ji did the same and the land he got in the sea, the present is called 'Kerala or Malayalam'. It is said that Parshuram got the land of Lord Vishnu and built a temple there. The same temple is still famous by the name of 'Thrikkakara Appan'. The day Parashuram ji installed the idol in the temple, it was Shravan Shukla's Triodashi on that day. Therefore, the festival of 'Onam' is celebrated on that day.
