Shimla: Recently, in the new Excise Policy of FY 2020 and 2021 approved by Jairam Cabinet, it has been talked about making wine cheaper as well as promoting cow protection. A cess of one and a half rupees on every bottle of liquor sold in the state will now be used for cow protection. About 9 crore bottles of liquor are expected to be sold in the new financial year. In view of this, the government is estimated to raise an amount of about Rs. 13 crores from the sale of liquor. This huge amount will be used to give impetus to the campaign of cow protection in the state. Principal Secretary Excise Sanjay Kundu has confirmed to increase census protection cess on liquor.

After the Jairam government took office, for the first time, 'Gau Seva' was linked to liquor in the state. The government had decided that in addition to the protection of cattle in the income from the sale of every bottle of liquor, one rupee would be spent on the ambulance and the local body. It is also being said that in the first year the government has not been able to do anything special, but in the second year, the amount spent in these items has been started. The excise department will deposit this money in the treasury of the government, from where other related departments will be able to use the money according to the need.

Late-night liquor will be available only in star-rated hotels in selected destinations: According to the new policy, only in star-rated hotels located in select tourist destinations of the state, liquor will be sold till late night. These will be the places the government has designated a designated tourist destination. These include a dozen areas such as Kasauli, Manali, Dalhousie, Dharamshala, Sangla, and Shimla Urban. Haryana has given permission to sell liquor with conditions up to 3 o'clock and UP till 4 o'clock.
