Bengaluru: One more arrest has been made in connection with the sexual assault of two minor girls involving Shivamurthy Muruga Sharanaru, the head priest of Muruga Rajendra Lingayat Math in Karnataka. Giving information in this regard, the Superintendent of Police of Chitradurga has said that the second accused in this case, Akkamhadevi Rashmi, has been arrested. She is an employee of the monastery.
A case under the POCSO act was registered against saint Shivamurthy Muruga Sharanaru after two schoolgirls living in the math hostel complained of sexual harassment. A case has been registered against five people, including Shivamurthy, including a junior priest, hostel head Parshivaiya Basavaditya, Math employee Akkamahadevi Rashmi and lawyer Gangadharaiah.
Shivamurthy Murug Sharanaru was arrested late on Thursday night on charges of sexually assaulting schoolgirls. After which he has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by the court. According to the report, an FIR was registered under the POCSO Act against the priest of the influential Muruga Math in Chitradurga after the minor girl alleged sexual assault. An FIR has been registered against Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru of Murugha Math in Chitradurga. According to the FIR, the girls were sexually abused for more than two years.
