In a major crackdown, Delhi Police's Operation Kavach-5 resulted in the arrest of 74 individuals involved in drug trafficking and raids across 325 locations in 15 districts. This operation, conducted between August 31 and September 1, aimed to disrupt drug trafficking networks and demonstrate a firm stance against drug-related activities.

During the raids, authorities recovered significant quantities of illegal drugs, including 108.93 grams of heroin, 66.28 kilograms of ganja, 1,100 grams of charas, and 16 grams of MDMA. Additionally, the police registered 54 cases under the Delhi Excise Act, seizing 78 bottles, 24 beers, 5,089 quarters of illicit liquor, and a scooter used for bootlegging.

Since the start of 2024, Delhi Police have arrested 961 individuals in 695 cases related to drug trafficking, recovering approximately 65.086 kilograms of heroin, 1.912 kilograms of cocaine, 2,258.379 kilograms of ganja, 102.345 kilograms of opium, 42.606 kilograms of charas, and 73.06 kilograms of poppy heads.

Operation Kavach, launched in May 2023, targets both street-level dealers and high-level traffickers. This comprehensive approach aims to address drug trafficking from all angles. So far, four operations under Kavach have led to substantial drug seizures and numerous arrests, disrupting drug distribution networks and creating a climate of fear among traffickers.

The operation has forced major drug traffickers to go underground, with many shifting their activities outside the city to avoid detection. Reports suggest that traffickers now use smaller quantities of drugs transported by car or train, often disguised as family trips.

Delhi Police have emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, aligning with the Union Home Minister's directive. The focus is not only on combating the supply side but also on raising awareness about drug abuse. Authorities urge parents, teachers, and social reformers to educate the youth about the dangers of drug addiction to prevent them from falling victim to this serious issue.
