Manipur:  Amidst the widespread uproar concerning the Manipur violence, the opposition alliance, INDIA, is vehemently demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comprehensive statement on the issue of sexual atrocities in the state during the parliamentary session. Jairam Ramesh, a prominent leader from the Congress party, emphasizes that any discussion on this matter must occur only after PM Modi's statement.

The Centre has agreed to hold a brief debate on the Manipur issue, with the Home Minister responding to it. However, the opposition stands firm on their demand for the Prime Minister's statement to precede the discussion.

In a tweet, Ramesh expressed, "The third day of the Monsoon session of Parliament commences today. INDIA's demand is clear and direct. PM should present a comprehensive statement regarding the appalling post-May 3 developments in Manipur. Only then can we engage in a discussion to convey our collective sense of pain, anguish, and the yearning for reconciliation."

"There will be no theatrical display, like the 5D drama PM resorts to in order to evade responsibility during such situations: Denial, distortion, diversion, deflection, and defamation. Will he rise to the occasion? Manipur is waiting. The nation is watching," added the Congress General Secretary.

MPs have submitted an adjournment motion in Parliament to discuss the situation in Manipur. The opposition is calling for an unrestricted debate, allowing all parties to speak without any time limitations. They have been holding protests on this issue since the commencement of the Monsoon Session on Thursday.

The government accuses the opposition of avoiding a debate on this crucial issue and questions their sincerity towards addressing it. In turn, the opposition alleges that the government is evading a debate on the matter.

The ongoing stalemate between the opposition and the government over the Manipur issue has brought the functioning of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to a standstill.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Manipur Police arrested another suspect in connection with a viral video depicting the heinous act of two women being paraded naked and sexually assaulted in the state. This incident occurred on May 4, 2023, and so far, six arrests have been made in relation to it.
