This fibre cable is laid under the sea from Chennai to Port Blair. Apart from Port Blair, 6 other islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are Swaraj Island, Little Andaman, Car Nicobar. Kamarota, Great Nicobar, Long Island, Rangat will also be delivered, so that the entire Andaman Nicobar will be able to get high-speed internet.

On December 30, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the Chennai-Andaman and Nicobar Islands Project (CANI), according to this project, 2,312 kilometres of optical fibre cable has been laid inside the ocean. After the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that OFC connectivity in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will boost 4G mobile services on these islands. This will lead to digital education like Tele-education, telehealth, e-governance services and tourism on the islands. Services will get popularity.

He said that with improved connectivity in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the quality of life and education of the people here will change and employment opportunities will be created. PM Modi said that better net connectivity has become the first priority of any tourist destination today. Better connectivity in this area will create many opportunities in the field of tourism.
