Fears of heavy rains and snowfall in union territories, Orange alert issued

Jammu: Orange alert has been issued by the meteorological center Srinagar for the next 48 hours (12-13 December) in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Heavy rain and snowfall have been warned in all three divisions. In Orange Warning, passengers have been instructed to travel in the respective divisions keeping in mind the weather. Instructions have been given to make all necessary arrangements in the snow-prone areas in Kashmir. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Mughal road connecting the 434 km long Srinagar-Leh National Highway with the district Poonch and Rajori to Shopian (Kashmir) was closed for vehicular traffic. All flights were canceled from Srinagar International Airport for the fifth consecutive day due to reduced visibility.

According to the Meteorological Department, due to western disturbances, the weather will be bad in the 3 divisions on Thursday and Friday. There can be heavy rain and snowfall in many areas. Due to snowfall on Wednesday, the contact routes were closed at Border Kasaba Gurez of Bandipora, Karnah of Kupwara and Tangdhar.

For information, let us tell you that unilaterally vehicles were allowed to move on the Jammu-Srinagar highway from Kashmir side. Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Mughal Road, Jojila Pass, Sadhna Top, Rajdhan Pass, Kargil, Drass, along with mountainous areas of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, received snowfall on Wednesday. Keeping in mind the weather patterns, 154 snow clearance machines have been installed to remove snow in Kashmir. On Wednesday, on the fifth day, there was light relief from the dense fog in Srinagar and surrounding areas. To keep flights smooth, 1000-1200 meters visibility should be there, but in Srinagar only 100 meters visibility is being done.
