Orleans Masters Super 1000 tournament is going on in that India’s top seed Kidambi Srikanth lost match and exit in the quarter-final on Friday. The Srikanth lost to Toma Junior Popov of France. Let us share that Toma is ranked 33 places below on the BWF charts, in straight games. In this match, Srikanth led 16-12 in the first game but it all went downhill from thereon for the Indian shuttler, who has been struggling on the tour. Popov needed just 41 minutes to outclass Srikanth 21-19, 21-7 in the men's singles quarter-final.
For your information let us share that Quite a few unforced errors crept in Srikanth's game as he failed to beat Popov, who had played a 3-game doubles match earlier in the day. The quarter-final defeat is a cause of concern for Srikanth who desperately needs big wins to stay in the race for the Tokyo Olympics. Notably, the Super 100 tournament in Orleans is part of the Tokyo Olympics qualification cycle. Only the top 16 players and top 8 pairs on the BWF Race to Tokyo Rankings will make it to the Tokyo Olympics. However, berths are restricted to two quota places if more than two from a particular country are ranked in the top-16. Srikanth is currently at the 20th spot with Sai Praneeth at the 13th spot.
