Damoh: A significant outcry has erupted in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh following allegations of love jihad involving a 42-year-old Muslim man, Mubarik Khan, and a 22-year-old Hindu girl, Shruti Tiwari. Hindu rights group Sanatan Sangh and activist Updesh Rana led a protest near Ambedkar Chauraha on Saturday, highlighting the case.

The girl's family alleges that Mubarak Khan came to their home on 15th-16th December last year with a knife and "abducted" their daughter. The couple entered into a live-in agreement and began living together. The family reported the incident to the police, leading to a missing persons case. The Damoh Police, after the Hindu group's protest, located the girl and sent her to the One Stop Centre for counseling. Shruti reportedly first met Mubarak in Bhopal.

Earlier reports suggested that the police were not allowing the girl's parents to meet her. According to a ZeeNews report, since Mubarak and Shruti have signed a live-in agreement and the girl is an adult, they cannot be forcibly separated.

The affidavit signed by the Hindu girl indicates that if they decide to get married in the future, it would be a Shariah-compliant Nikah ceremony. The affidavit, dated 18th December 2023, also states that if they decide to part ways, they will not file complaints against each other, demand maintenance, or make claims on each other's money or properties.

Hindu activists claim to have spoken to the girl, who allegedly stated that she was lured by Mubarak Khan into eloping but expressed her desire to return to her parents. CSP Abhishek Tiwari arrived at the protest site, listened to the demonstrators' demands, and subsequently, the girl was handed over to her parents.

Sanatan Sangh leader Updesh Rana emphasized the need for the police to monitor Mubarak Khan's activities and claimed that organized love jihad campaigns are being launched in Damoh. Rana raised concerns about the role of the government administration in cases like Love Jihad in Damoh, the Hijab scandal of Ganga Jamna School, and religious conversion. He urged Hindu parents to instill the right values in their children amid a surge in love jihad cases in the region.
