So far, 20.65 crore loans have been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana aimed at expanding business by giving loans to small businessmen such as street vendors, and vegetable sellers to the barber, mechanic, etc. Through this, the government has disbursed loans worth Rs 986816.91 crore till October 2019. In response to a written question in the Rajya Sabha, the government has said that in the 2019-20 financial year alone, loans worth Rs 120301.3 crore have been disbursed so far. 2.40 crore loan applications were approved during this period. While in the year 2018-19, 59870318 Mudra loans were sanctioned through which loans worth Rs 311811.4 crore were disbursed.

In his written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur has said that about 65 percent of the total loan amount disbursed till October 2019 has been from general category applicants. Out of the total amount of 986816.91, an amount of Rs 642393.74 crore has been disbursed to the general category applicants. However, other backward classes applicants got Rs 210254.99 crore as loan. This is about 22 percent of the total disbursed amount.

In contrast, a loan of Rs 100460.31 crore has been disbursed to 3.5 crore scheduled caste applicants till October 2019. This constitutes a little over 10 percent of the total disbursed amount. Similarly, an amount of Rs 33707.04 crore has been disbursed to scheduled tribe applicants. As far as conversion of Mudra loans into NPAs is concerned, the government has kept the details of the loan disbursed by the public banks till June 2019 in the Rajya Sabha. Through this, public sector banks disbursed 2.43 crore loans, out of which 12.3 lakh loans have been made NPAs.
