New Delhi:  Delhi Police have registered a case following an act of vandalism at the residence of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi. On the evening of June 27, a group of activists targeted his home at 34 Ashoka Road, putting up posters with slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and smearing black ink on the nameplate. The protest was reportedly in response to Owaisi’s pro-Palestine remarks made in the Lok Sabha.

The First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Parliament Street Police Station, with charges including sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 153A (provocation with intent to cause a riot) of the Indian Penal Code. The police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved.

Owaisi condemned the attack on social media, sharing images of the vandalism and criticizing the offenders for what he described as "Savarkar-type cowardly behaviour." He also called out authorities, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, questioning the effectiveness of their oversight in ensuring the safety of MPs.

The incident involved a group of five men who arrived at Owaisi’s residence and displayed posters demanding his removal from the Lok Sabha. The posters, which featured slogans such as “I stand with Israel,” “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” and “Owaisi should be suspended,” were accompanied by chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Jai Shri Ram.” The men recorded and shared a video urging people to unite against Owaisi. The protest was swiftly addressed by the Delhi Police, who removed the posters.

The controversy stems from Owaisi's remarks on June 25, where he raised the slogan "Jai Palestine" after taking his oath of office for the fifth term in the Lok Sabha. During his oath-taking, Owaisi declared, “Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine, Takbeer Allah-u-Akbar.” The slogans were not recorded as part of the official proceedings, as confirmed by pro-tem speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab.

Following the incident, BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje filed a complaint requesting that Owaisi’s slogan be removed from parliamentary records and that he retake the oath without the controversial slogan. Owaisi defended his remarks, asserting his commitment to representing marginalized communities and maintaining his stance on his beliefs.
