New Delhi: Former Finance Minister and Congress veteran P Chidambaram, arrested in INX Media case, has targeted the Modi government at the Center regarding the National Register of Citizens (NRC). In a tweet made by P Chidambaram, if the NRC is a legal process, how will the law process be adopted with 19 lakh people declared as non-citizens.

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said that "if Bangladesh has been assured that the NRC process will not affect it, what will be done to these 19 lakh people. Till when these 19 lakh people will live without uncertainty, worry and civil and human rights". Chidambaram further said that "if we are celebrating the humanism of Mahatma Gandhi, then we should also answer these questions".

Let us tell you that the government has also made a provision for those who have been excluded from the NRC list, under which people who are not named in this final list of NRC can appeal to the foreign tribunal. However, this work will have to be done within 120 days. Currently, 100 tribunals are functioning in Assam. Apart from this, these people will be able to appeal from the Foreign Tribunal to the High Court and the Supreme Court if they do not get a place in the NRC.
