New Delhi: The veteran Congress leader and former home minister P Chidambaram has told the Modi government that the government should transfer money to the bank accounts of the poor and also give them free food. He said that only the government which does not have heart will do nothing for the poor. He said that many people are facing shortage of money and are standing in queues for food.

Chidambaram said, "Why the government is not able to save these people from suffering from hunger and why it is not protecting their honor by sending money to the account of the poor. Why is the government not distributing a small part of that 77 million tonne stock in FCI to the families who need it most at the moment?"

Attacking the Modi government on Twitter, Chidambaram said that both PM Modi and Nirmala Sitharaman could not answer his questions. Ever since the lockdown is in force across the country, P Chidambaram has been talking about putting money in the accounts of the poor. Thousands of migrant laborers were trapped on the borders of various states when they were trying to return to their homes. In some places, law and order also came under threat. The Modi government has already announced to transfer money to Jan Dhan accounts.
