Delhi: Customs officials arrested two individuals on Wednesday, including Shiv Kumar Prasad, the personal assistant of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, in connection with a gold smuggling case at Delhi airport.

Sources revealed that Shiv Kumar Prasad went to the Delhi Airport to meet a passenger arriving from Dubai. Both Prasad and the passenger were detained when the latter attempted to hand over approximately 500 grams of gold to Prasad. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

Reports indicate that Prasad possessed an aerodrome entry permit card, granting him access to airport premises. He used this permit to enter the airport and receive the gold package before being apprehended along with the passenger.

The arrest has led to sharp criticism from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), targeting both the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The BJP has questioned the involvement of Tharoor's aide in the smuggling operation, putting pressure on both parties to address the issue.
