Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty and renowned singer Usha Uthup received the prestigious Padma Bhushan award from President Draupadi Murmu on Monday in recognition of their contributions to Indian cinema and the music industry. Both expressed their joy after receiving the honor in Delhi, with Mithun Chakraborty thanking the committee for selecting him.
Chakraborty told "I am very happy. I have never asked for anything from anyone in my life. When someone receives so much respect and honor, it is the happiest moment." He added that he was initially taken aback upon receiving the news of the award, as he had not expected it. He expressed his gratitude to everyone on the committee for selecting him.
Usha Uthup, too, expressed immense happiness and even shed tears of joy. " Uthup noted that receiving the Padma Bhushan was particularly special for her because she does not fit the typical mold of classical musicians or dancers who often receive such accolades. She emphasized her belief in peace and unity, saying, "I believe in making people smile through my music. The Padma Bhushan is the third-highest civilian honor bestowed by the Government of India.
