Chandigarh: An entirety of three states has prohibited the screening of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's new release Padmavati. After Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced at a public meeting that Padmavati will not release in his state, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also told the media that films that distort history will not be permitted to release.
“Nobody will accept the distortion of history and those who are protesting are truly doing so, Singh told the media.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference also has written to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti looking for a ban on the movie.
Padmavati is also banned in UP and MP too.
The Karni Sena has been up in arms against Bhansali for the suspected misrepresentation of history' in Padmavati. In the past few weeks, there has been intimidation and bullying calls for beheading Bhansali and the film's lead actress, Deepika Padukone.
Padmavati has the remarkable star cast Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh, and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. The film is based on the 1303 siege of Chittorgarh by Alauddin Khilji.
The release of Padmavati has been delayed for an indefinite period.
