Recently, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri shared a news item from people brought to India from Afghanistan from his Twitter account.

Sharing this news, he wrote in the caption, "The developments in our unstable neighboring countries and the way Sikhs and Hindus are going through bad times are enough to explain why the citizenship amendment law is needed." The Citizenship Amendment Act proposes to grant citizenship to minorities in neighbouring countries. In fact, according to these laws, minorities include Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, Sikhs, and Christians.

As per the Citizenship Amendment Act, it is proposed to give citizenship to minorities from neighboring countries who have been living in India for the last six years. Earlier, the limit was 11 years. Last Sunday, about 300 people from Afghanistan were brought to India by three separate flights to Delhi's IGI airport. With this, an Air Force aircraft carrying 168 passengers from Kabul reached Hindon Airbase in C-17 Globemaster Ghaziabad. The passengers are said to include 24 Afghan Sikhs.
