ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) appears divided over its previous decision of en masse resignations by its lawmakers as the Pakistan National Assembly (NA) convenes on Monday to elect a new Prime Minister after PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi filed their nomination papers.

After the joint opposition's historic vote of no-confidence in former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday, the cabinet division de-notified 52 members of the federal cabinet, 25 federal ministers, four ministers of state, four Prime Minister's advisers, and 19 special assistants, as per reports. Sharif, who has a good chance of becoming Prime Minister, said the new cabinet would be formed only after consultation with all allies.

Because the PTI core committee was split on whether to pursue en masse resignations of MNAs in a meeting chaired by Khan on Sunday, the party chairman scheduled a parliamentary party meeting at Parliament House on Monday to reach a final decision. The outcome of the PTI parliamentary conference will determine whether Qureshi will run for prime minister or quit along with other PTI and its allies MNAs.

However, if the PML-N wins the parliament election, the PTI has decided to give the new administration a hard time through street protests.
