Islamabad: The Pakistani Army has said that Indian Sikh pilgrims coming to Kartarpur Sahib via Kartapur Corridor will have to bring a passport with them. This information has been given in a news report in the press on Thursday. A few days ago, PM Imran Khan announced that Indian devotees would need only a valid identity card to come to the holy Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

A day before Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafur's remarks, India had asked Pakistan to clarify whether Sikh pilgrims would need a passport to visit the corridor at Kartarpur. PM Imran Khan will inaugurate the Kartarpur corridor on Saturday giving visa to Indian Sikh pilgrims without access to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. This corridor is being opened this week to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.
Local media reported that Major General Ghafoor said on Wednesday that Indian Sikh pilgrims would be required to show passports to use the Kartarpur corridor. Gafoor has said that, for security reasons, the entry will be given in a legal manner under the permission given on passport based identity.
