Islamabad: Pakistan's maritime authorities have arrested 31 Indian fishermen for fishing in the country's waters and recovered five of their boats. Officials gave information in this regard on Sunday. Pakistan's Maritime Security Agency has said that it has apprehended the intruding boats during patrolling in the Pakistan Exclusive Economic Zone on Friday.
The PMSA said one of its ships, along with 31 crew members, had caught five Indian fishing boats. It also said that the boats have been taken to Karachi for further legal action, in accordance with the United Nations Treaty on Pakistani law and the law of the sea. Pakistan and India often arrest each other's fishermen for violating the waters.
According to the list of prisoners exchanged by India and Pakistan in early 2022, there are at least 628 Indian nationals in Pakistani jails, including 51 civilians and 577 fishermen. India has also shared a list of 355 Pakistani prisoners, including 282 civilians and 73 fishermen.
