Islamabad: Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence or, say, former ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed may be appointed as the new chief of the Pakistani army. Speculation has intensified since Siraj Uddin Haqqani, the leader of the global terrorist group Haqqani Network, was given a big post in Afghanistan.

Faiz Hameed has recently been appointed Commander of XI Corps in Peshawar. According to media reports, Faiz Hameed may replace his fellow Baloch Regiment senior general Qamar Javed Bajwa and become the next chief of the Pakistani Army in 2022. General Bajwa is scheduled to complete his six-year term as Pakistan Army Chief in November 2022.

In fact, according to Pakistan watchers, Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed has been appointed Peshawar corps commander, as it is mandatory for contenders for the post of Pakistani Army Chief to command a core-level formation for at least a year. Meanwhile, Pakistani Army watchers say General Bajwa may extend his term for a year or two in November 2022.
