Islamabad: Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi has got a new responsibility. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has appointed him as the new chief selector. Najam Sethi had sacked the selection committee headed by Mohammad Wasim a day earlier. Sethi announced Shahid Afridi as the chief selector in a Tweet on Saturday.
According to the report, Afridi will be included in this selection committee along with former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, and former fast bowler Rao Iftikhar. Haroon Rashid has been appointed as the new convener. Sethi has replaced Ramiz Raja as PCB chairman. Raja was recently removed from this post. The Afridi-led selection committee, however, has got this command for the same series. This committee will select the team for the series to be played against the New Zealand tour. Although the Pakistan team has been announced for the Test series against New Zealand, the team is yet to be selected for the ODI series. Pakistan and New Zealand are scheduled to play three ODIs on January 10, 12, and 14.
Recently, the Government of Pakistan made changes to the PCB, and Sethi was made chairman after removing Ramiz Raja. After this, Sethi sacked all the committees that were elected as per the 2019 Constitution. Under this, the selection committee headed by Wasim was dismissed.
