Islamabad: Pakistan successfully test-fired its ballistic missile Ghaznavi on Thursday. The Ghaznavi missile capable of hitting a surface-to-surface range of 290 to 320 km is capable of carrying 700 kg of explosives. Pakistan had closed its Karachi air route for the test.

Pakistan's test-firing of the Ghaznavi missile is seen as an attempt to send a message of tension to the world. Pakistan had closed three airspaces in Karachi with its navy issuing an alert for missile tests. The Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan had announced the closure of three airspaces for four days (28 to 31 August) on August 28. According to an agreement between India and Pakistan, any test has to be reported at least three days in advance. It has already been reported to India from the Pakistan side. Pakistan had informed the Indian authorities on August 26.

More recently, Pakistan Government Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said on Twitter that the Pakistani government was considering a decision to close all air routes to India. It was reported that Pakistan had closed its Karachi air route for three days, though it did not talk about the route to India.
