New York: In a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), separate from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGC), Indian Foreign Minister S.K. Pakistan has boycotted the meeting during Jaishankar's address. Jaishankar was addressing the meeting on Thursday, during which Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi distanced himself from it. The Pakistani minister joined the meeting as soon as the Indian minister finished his address.

Pakistan has done this at a time when it has continuously accused India of obstructing SAARC and South Asian unity. Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said in the meeting that elimination of terrorism in all its forms is a precondition not only for meaningful cooperation between South Asian neighbors but also for the survival of the region.

Jaishankar said that "SAARC is really not just a missed opportunity but also a story of deliberately getting stuck in obstacles. Terrorism is one of them". Citing the South Asian satellite, Jaishankar described how India is executing an initiative that is enriching the neighbourhood. The South Asian satellite was launched in 2017 with the intention of finding a scientific solution to alleviate poverty in the SAARC region.
