Two bills related to strict rules set by the Finance Action Task Force (FATF) have been rejected by the Pak-dominated Senate. This derailed the efforts made by the Pakistan government to prevent the money laundering case and the financing of watchdogs by terrorists from going blacklisted. Prime Minister Imran Khan reacted sharply to this move and accused the opposition leaders of trying to save their illegal money. Earlier in July, Pakistan's Senate has introduced two bills related to strict conditions set by the FATF with mutual consent. A few days ago, these bills were passed in the National Assembly despite opposition.

The 104-member Senate invalidated both the bills by voice vote. The opposition has a majority in the Senate. Leader of the House Shehzad Wasim last week refused to apologize for his remarks against the opposition leader. Shahzad Wasim accused the opposition leaders of indulging in money laundering without naming them.

These bills will now be voted in the joint session of Parliament. PM Imran Khan tweeted, 'In the Senate today, the Opposition rejected two important bills related to FATF. From the first day, I have maintained that the selfish interests of the opposition leaders and the interests of the country are different. Tensions between the government and the opposition have been going on for many days over allegations that top leaders of the opposition are seeking relief in corruption cases.
