Islamabad: Pakistan, which became an Islamic country after separating from India in 1947, continues to face cases of atrocities on minorities. Kidnapping, rape, conversion and forced marriage of sisters and daughters of Hindus and Sikhs have become common in Pakistan. Now the case of kidnapping, conversion and then marriage of a minor Hindu girl has come to light in Sindh province. The victim, Sohna Sharma, was kidnapped by her teacher Akhtar. The issue was also fiercely debated in the Sindh provincial assembly. He also demanded strict action against the accused. On this, the provincial minister has assured to take necessary action.
According to the report, a 14-year-old minor Hindu girl, Sohna Sharma, was kidnapped from her house in Qazi Ahmed area of Sindh province. Dilip Kumar, father of the victim, said that Sohna's teachers Akhtar Gabol, Faizan Jat, Sarang Khaskheli entered the house at gunpoint and looted it. After this, his daughter was kidnapped. Dilip Kumar has told that he has given a complaint to the police in this matter. But instead of taking action, the police are saying that Sohna, a minor, has converted and married on her own free will. So they have no hope of getting their daughter back.
Incidents of abduction and forced conversion of Hindu-Sikh girls to Islam and forced marriage are becoming common in Pakistan. In such a situation, there was a debate in the Assembly of Sindh province about this matter. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) legislator Lal Chand Ukrani has expressed outrage and grief over the incident, saying that the entire minority community is shocked by the abduction of Sohna Sharma.
Lal Chand Ukrani has described this incident as cruelty and said that forced conversion and marriage are not allowed in any religion. Therefore, no one should be forced to convert forcibly. Apart from this, when Lal Chand Ukrani tried to talk about other issues of minorities, Assembly Speaker Aga Siraj stopped him from speaking by turning off his mic. However, he later told the Assembly that after the abduction and conversion of Sohna Sharma, her marriage certificate was also made. So that it can be proved that he has converted and married on her own free will.
Provincial minister Gian Chand Israni said, "According to the law, it is a tragic incident. A girl below the age of 18 cannot change her religion or get married. He has also said that he is in constant touch with the police in connection with the kidnapping of Sohna Sharma." The MLA of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Party has also very sad in the Assembly about this matter, saying, 'That girl is my relative. Please have mercy on him. He has also said that Sohna was forced to convert. Later, provincial minister Mukesh Chawla assured the House that action would be taken as per law. However, no action has been reported so far.'
