Islamabad: Preparations are being made to demolish the ancestral mansion of late Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor in Pakistan. The current owner of this mansion in Peshawar wants to make it a shopping complex. In 2018, Rishi Kapoor requested the Pakistani government to convert his ancestral mansion in Peshawar's Kissa Khwani Bazaar into a museum. The government had also taken a decision in this regard, but could not conclude a deal with the owner of the mansion.
On Rishi Kapoor's insistence, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi assured him that the government would preserve the 'Kapoor Haveli' as a museum, but the government could not do anything special in this direction. People living here say that due to lack of care, the mansion has become so dilapidated that it can fall anytime. The current owner of the mansion is Haji Muhammad Israr, who is not ready to give the mansion to the current government.
The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province wants to buy this mansion of historical importance, so that it can be preserved in its original form for the tourists. While Israar wants to drop it and build a shopping complex here. There has been talk in this regard many times on both sides, but each time the matter gets stuck at a price. According to an estimate, the mansion costs more than five crore rupees.
