Islamabad: After Pulwama terror attack the tension between India and Pakistan has increased to a great extent. Pakistan is facing pressure from many countries for not taking action against terrorism on its own soil. Now, according to the lastest report, the amount of money that Pakistan receives in 2020 from US as military fund for counter-terrorism operations on its soil against terrorists is expected to be almost next to nothing.

This comes as the Trump administration has reduced its budgetary request for the funds used to compensate coalition partners for military and logistical support by half.

According to the summary of budgetary request released by the US Department of defence , the fiscal year 2020 budget request for Coalition Support Fund (CSF) of $450 million was $450 million (or 50%) less than that of FY 2019, when $900 million was allocated for it. The statement clarified that the reason for the massive deduction was “the continuing suspension of US security assistance to Pakistan based on the President’s January 4, 2018, guidance.” 

The department has earmarked $150 mn as a request for another programme related to coalition support, however, that is not in connection with CSF.

A US expert on South Asia affairs told the Hindustan Times  that the decreased budget by the US Department of defence for the Coalition Support Fund, of which Pakistan has been the key beneficiary till the recent fund freeze, could mean “that the Pakistanis will get zero in FY20, with the $450mn channelled elsewhere”.  He further said that  the dismal sum reserved for the request could mean that US government has not “ended security aid to Pakistan” and “wants at some to remain available now and going forward.”
