New York: India has restated its backing for a solution involving two states, ensuring Palestinian people can live freely in an independent nation with secure borders. Ruchira Kamboj, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, highlighted this stance during a recent UNGA session.
Kamboj expressed optimism despite a Security Council veto on Palestine's UN membership bid earlier in April. She voiced hope for reconsideration, emphasizing India's commitment to a Two-State solution achieved through direct negotiations between both parties.
The U.S. exercised its veto power on April 18, blocking a UN Security Council resolution granting statehood to Palestine. Kamboj stressed India's stance on enduring peace through Two-State negotiations, urging parties to create conditions for resumed talks.
Concerning the Gaza conflict, Kamboj condemned civilian casualties and urged adherence to international law. She labeled Hamas' attacks on Israel as unacceptable terrorism, demanding immediate hostage release.
Kamboj emphasized the urgent need for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza and reaffirmed India's support in this regard. The conflict escalated after Hamas' terror attack on October 7, prompting Israeli counteroffensives against Hamas in Gaza.
