Islamabad: Pakistan's economic condition has deteriorated so much that it has to sell even the buildings of foreign embassies to repay its debt. Pakistani newspaper Dawn confirmed that the Shehbaz Sharif government has approved the sale of its embassy building in Washington. Earlier, Shehbaz's elder brother and former PM Nawaz Sharif has also done the same thing during his tenure. Pakistani officials have said that Pakistan will accept the auction only if it gets the desired price. The building is in a posh area and is worth $6 million.

For some time now, it has been headlined in Pakistani newspapers that the Shehbaz Sharif government is in debt. Therefore, they have started selling the buildings of foreign embassies to avoid bankruptcy. However, there seems to be no shortage of comfort for the representatives of the Pakistani government, while inflation has definitely broken the back of the general public. Dawn newspaper confirmed on Thursday that the Shehbaz government has given the green signal to sell its embassy building located in a posh area of Washington, US.

Embassy officials said it is a very old building and has been vacant for the last 15 years. Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the Cabinet has approved the proposal to auction a building owned by the Pakistani Embassy in Washington. He further said that the previous bid of $4.5 million has been replaced by a second bid of $6.9 million. The building is located in a posh area and is worth $6 million.
