Former Pakistan batsman Nasir Jamshed has been sentenced to 17 months in prison for spot-fixing. The 30-year-old player was convicted by the court in December last year. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned Jamshed for 10 years only in 2018. Apart from Jamshed, Yusuf Anwar and Mohammad Ijaz have also been sentenced to 40 and 30 months respectively by the Crown Court of Manchester. All the players have confessed to giving money to the players for poor performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Both are UK citizens.

According to reports, last year, a police officer, as a bookie, approached these 3 to fix the match. Investigation revealed that Jamshed had unsuccessfully tried spot-fixing twice in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in 2016. Britain's National Crime Agency arrested Jamshed, Yusuf Anwar, and Mohammed Ijaz during an investigation into spot-fixing last year. Initially, all 3 had clearly denied fixing, but during the hearing in December last year, all confessed their crime.

After this decision, Jamshed's wife Samara Afzal said that Nasir's future could have been good, but he took the shortcut and lost everything. Nasser could get UK citizenship and could play county cricket, but he lost everything with career, respect, and fame. Samra issued a statement saying that with this decision, the players will learn not to take the wrong path. Jamshed's wife further said that other players should see it towards strict action against corruption. Born on 6 December 1989 in Lahore, Punjab, Jamshed played two Tests, 48 ODIs and 18 T20Is for Pakistan. The opening batsman made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2008, but could not retain his place in the team.
