Islamabad: The arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 9 and the subsequent disturbances in Pakistan do not seem to stop. Meanwhile, a report submitted to Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir has added to the woes of the Shehbaz Sharif-led government. It has been reported in this report that after Imran's arrest, attacks on some military bases were done at the behest of the government.
The report pointed out that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) had instigated the government supporters to carry out sabotage and damage to army property at the behest of the Ministry of Home Affairs. IB comes under the government. The purpose of such provocation was to make Imran's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) an enemy of the army. This report has been prepared by Military Intelligence (MI). Energy security scholar Saeed Afridi has said that since the ouster of Imran, PML-N leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's team was looking for an opportunity to ban PTI or Imran. In the meeting of the National Security Committee, Nawaz's team tried to reach a consensus to ban PTI, but Bilawal, the leader of the government's ally Pakistan People's Party (PPP), opposed it.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, a close aide of Nawaz Sharif and the second biggest minister in the government, has repeatedly threatened Imran, who is demanding elections. In an interview, Rana had even said that Imran has brought the country's politics to a point where only one of us can exist. If it comes to our existence, we will not miss out on taking any step that is democratic or not.
