ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed deep regret and sorrow over the unfortunate death of six Pakistani army servicemen in a helicopter crash during a peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the Prime Minister also paid tribute to the Pakistani armed forces' contributions to international peace, as reported by the state media.

The PUMA helicopter crashed while on a surveillance mission in DR Congo on Tuesday, killing eight UN troops on board, including six Pakistani commanders and soldiers, according to the army's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

According to the ISPR, Pakistan has always played a critical role as a responsible member of the international community in assisting in the realisation of global peace and security ideals by active involvement in numerous UN peacekeeping missions.

"Our peacekeepers have always distinguished themselves in conducting difficult peacekeeping missions in conflict-prone areas through devotion and, where necessary, supreme sacrifices," the statement continued.
