New Delhi: Paraguay, a nation in South America, achieved a significant milestone on Wednesday by becoming the 100th country to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson announced this development, stating that Paraguay completed its accession by handing over the Instrument of Ratification during a meeting in New Delhi between Ambassador Fleming Raul Duarte of Paraguay and Head of Depository, JS (ED & MER) @Abhishekifs.

The ISA, launched on 30 November 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron during COP21 in Paris, aims to expedite the global deployment of solar energy to support climate action. Headquartered in India, the alliance has now united numerous countries to collectively address challenges related to solar technology, financing, and capacity building.

"India has been instrumental in shaping a sustainable energy future by offering renewable energy solutions globally, particularly to the Global South," the official statement highlighted. Under India’s leadership, the ISA has implemented impactful projects such as solarising Malawi’s Parliamentary building, establishing solar-powered healthcare centers in Fiji, creating a solar-powered cold storage facility in Seychelles, and installing solar PV rooftop systems in Kiribati. Moreover, the alliance has facilitated technical training for experts from member countries to enhance their capabilities in solar energy.

India's leadership in the ISA underscores its dedication to sustainable energy solutions and environmental stewardship. Through initiatives like technology transfer, capacity building, and bilateral agreements within the ISA framework, India continues to promote the widespread adoption of affordable and sustainable solar energy solutions globally.

The ISA serves as a crucial platform for international collaboration, bringing nations together in their collective efforts to combat climate change and transition towards clean energy sources on a global scale.
