Parashurama is known as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and it is believed that he is born during the Shukla Paksha Tritiya in the month of Vaishakh. It is said that Parashurama was born during the Pradosh. Therefore, the day on which Tritiya falls during Pradosh Kaal is celebrated as Parashuram Jayanti. According to a legend, Lord Parashurama was born in a Brahmin clan. He was the son of sage Jamadagni and mother Renuka. Sage Jamadagni was called Sapta Rishi. Lord Parashurama was very dejected, powerful and mighty. It is said that on the orders of his father, he had beheaded his mother. After this, he also sought a boon from the father to revive the mother. According to the Mahabharata, Bhishma, son of Maharaj Shantanu, learned Shastra Vidhya from Lord Parshuram.
