New Delhi: On Sunday, the COP21 Paris climate deal has been ratified by the India, marking a landmark in an accord that ties nations to take action to ease greenhouse gas emission to shun the risk of global warming due to human activities.

Government officials on last evening informed the UN secretariat in New York that it was processing the accord and with the sign of the treaty, India became the 62nd country to ratify the agreement.

Indian permanent mission to the UN, said in a statement on Sunday, that, “This significant contribution towards the early entry into force of the Paris Agreement underlines Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to global cause of environmental protection and climate justice and reaffirms India’s responsive leadership in addressing the impact of climate change”.

“Care & concern towards nature is integral to the Indian ethos. India is committed to doing everything possible to mitigate climate change”, tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
