NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha held a voice vote and passed the Finance Bill moved by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman amid loud sloganeering by Opposition members. 

With the passage of the Finance Bill, tax proposals announced in the Budge 2023t would be passed. The Budget envisages an expenditure of about Rs.45 lakh crore for the FY beginning April 1st.

The Lok Sabha adjourned till mid noon within a minute of starting today. The Rajya Sabha, also, was adjourned to meet at 2:30 pm, after papers were put up on the table since the House was in disorder. Within a minute of resuming at 2:30 pm., proceedings were further pushed by one hour as the chorus of protests carried on.

The proceedings today were also marked by ongoing demonstrations and sloganeering. Within a minute of starting today, the Lok Sabha was suspended until midday. Papers were placed on the table, and the Rajya Sabha was also adjourned to meet at 2:30 p.m. since the House was chaotic. The proceedings were delayed by an hour within a minute of starting at 2:30 p.m. due to the chorus of objections that continued.

Rahul Gandhi's comments and a call for a JPC investigation into the Adani Group issue sparked protests and sloganeering yesterday in both Houses. Both issues have been the source of persistent commotion and forced multiple adjournments throughout the second leg of the Budget session.

Yesterday, the Lok Sabha cleared the Union Budget without debate as the Opposition maintained its demonstrations and members of the House entered the well of the House. The Rajya Sabha was unable to conduct any business. By voice vote, the government's expenditure plan was rejected as amended by the opposition. The relevant Appropriation Bills and the Demands for Grants for 2023–24 were tabled for discussion and vote by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Demands for Grants of all Ministries were subsequently put up for vote after the Speaker applied the guillotine, and they were approved amidst opposition protests.

On March 13, following a break for reviewing the Budget materials, the Budget session was resumed. On April 6, 2023, the second leg is anticipated to come to an end.
