New Delhi:  On Tuesday, the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Family Welfare will reconvene to resume its discussion on "Affordability of Cancer Treatment."

The 28-member committee is set to hear the "comments of stakeholders" at 11 a.m. under the leadership of Ram Gopal Yadav, a Rajya Sabha MP and leader of the Samajwadi Party from Uttar Pradesh.

On Monday evening, the Committee began a discussion on the topic of "Affordability of Cancer Treatment" in the presence of up to 28 members, including seven from the Rajya Sabha and 21 from the Lok Sabha.

Sources said that after a nearly 2.5-hour debate on Monday, the Committee recommended to the Central government that GST be waived on cancer drugs so as to make treatment for this genetic condition more accessible.

The committee also stressed the need for strict action to control the costs of radiation therapy and pharmaceuticals.
