Patanjali Foods Ltd has recalled 4 tonnes of red chilli powder from the market following instructions from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The food safety regulator directed the recall of a specific batch of packed red chilli powder due to non-compliance with food safety standards. "We have recalled a small batch of 4 tonnes of our 200-gram packs of red chilli powder," said Sanjeev Asthana, CEO of Patanjali Foods, in an official statement.
The CEO said that the product samples failed to meet the maximum permissible levels of pesticide residues set by the FSSAI. He added, "The FSSAI has strict guidelines for Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) on pesticide residues in various food products, including red chilli powder."
To address the issue, Patanjali Foods has taken swift action by informing its distributors and running advertisements to notify consumers who may have purchased the product. The company has urged customers to return the affected product to the store where it was bought and claim a full refund.
In addition, Patanjali Foods is evaluating its agricultural suppliers and strengthening its quality control processes to ensure compliance with FSSAI regulations. "We are committed to maintaining the highest quality standards across all our products and building a fully compliant supply chain," Asthana said.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority has specifically directed Patanjali Foods to recall the entire batch of red chilli powder identified by Batch No. AJD2400012. The batch was found to violate the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins, and Residues) Regulations of 2011.
