Odisha: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated the state's longest bridge over the Mahanadi River on Monday in Gopinathpur, Cuttack district. According to officials, the 3.4-kilometer-long bridge connecting Singhanath Pitha and Baideswar in Cuttack district will reduce the distance by 45 kilometres, benefiting approximately five lakh people. The bridge, which is in the shape of a T, was built at a cost of Rs.111 crore, they said.

It was on February 28, 2014 that Navin Patnaik laid the bridge's foundation stone.

Prior to Patnaik's visit, police arrested hundreds of Congress and BJP workers, including former MLA Debasis Patnaik, who were protesting with black flags in Banki. Opposition activists demanded the resignation of Minister of State for Home DS Mishra for his alleged ties to the prime accused in the kidnapping and murder of a female teacher in Kalahandi.

Patnaik had inaugurated the 2.88-kilometer-long Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Setu over the Kathajodi river at Trisulia in July 2017, which had previously held the title of the state's longest bridge. Through Barang, the bridge connects Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
