The most wonderful part of life is when you fall in love. Being with someone, the person loves has its own charm. But apart from all this idea of being in love, many people love to stay away. There are people who are scared of being in a relationship. Many people address them as love cynics, or commitment phobics or anti-romantics etc. 
Here are some of the reasons why people stay away from love and commitment.

​The fear of being abandoned:
People who are scared of being in a relationship, do not fear to be in love. Apart, they suffer from the fear of being abandoned. However, they confuse this with love. Some people are subconsciously scared, they are worried about the negative impact of an unsuccessful relationship. So, they think that they are safe if they do not fall in love.

​Trust issues:
You can always love a person you trust but you may not always trust a person you love. Unlike love, trust does not develop overnight. It needs to be earned. Some people who think they cannot fall in love actually confuse trust with love. 

​Once bitten twice shy:
Disappointments in love can be a life-altering experience. Some people shy away from falling in love twice if they have had a bad experience in the past.

​Bad example:
People from dysfunctional families have trouble falling in love or being in a relationship. They have generally grown up seeing their elders fight or abuse each other. This makes them lose faith in love.

​The wrong idea of love:
Some people grow up believing the ‘fairy tale’ idea of love, which makes them incapable of recognizing real love. They cannot accept the fact that love comes with its own share of trials and tribulations. For them, love is a magical potion or the gateway to their happily ever after.
