The state government has started a permanent treatment for decades of kidney problems in the uddanarea. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took over as CM and focused on this issue. Many experts have confirmed that the ground water is responsible for the disease in the area The people of the area have accelerated the work of a huge water scheme to supply safe river water throughout the year. The government has launched a water project of Rs 700 crore to move the river water from hiramandalam reservoir to 809 residential areas in seven zones, including two municipalities in the Ichapuram and Palasa constituencies, known as uddana.

The land mining work is underway for the construction of water filter beds in the Meliaputti area to supply 84 million litres of drinking water per day. Under this scheme, a total of 571 overhead tanks have been constructed in various villages in the two assembly constituencies, of which 369 overhead tanks have been started. Water is to be moved through a 124 km pipeline, not through gravity from hiramandalam reservoir. The survey process for pipeline construction has already been completed. The process of obtaining permission from railway, forest and R&B officials has already begun to establish a pipeline at 19 locations.

Uddanarea kidney problem is the problem of 7,82,707 people in Kanchili, Ichhapuram, Kaviti, Sompeta, Palasa, Vajrapukottur and Mandasa mandals. The government has designed this scheme to provide drinking water for the next 30 years, at a rate of 100 litres per day to all the people here. In the future, the scheme was taken up to provide drinking water to 170 residential areas in the Patapatnam and Meliyaputti zones of Srikakulam district.

Bahuda and Mahendra Tanya rivers in the uddana area are drying up during summer. At that time people were forced to drink bore water. They are suffering from the disease. Despite the years of this problem, the previous TDP government has been constantly saying tricks and not sincere. YS Jagan was granted permanent protected drinking water scheme on September 6, 2019 after becoming the CM. RWS officials said that 19.5 TMc water is available annually in hiramandalam reservoir, of which 1.12 TMc ft water will be allocated for the people of the region.
